Dh-9a First Day Envelope

This First Day Cover commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the First Military Control Operations by the Royal Air Force 10 October, 1922. This image by aviation artist John Young, depicts D.H.9as of No. 8 Sqdn. supported by Sopwith Snipes of No. 1 Sqdn. in action, 1924. This envelope was flown in Shackleton AEW Mk 2 - No. WL 756 on a low-level sortie over the North Sea. Using the APS-20(F) radar, carried out practice interceptions against fighters from Wattisham, Binbrook and Wyton.
