Capt Snodgrass flew this particular F-14B on occasion while testing the new Forward Looking Infrared Radar (FLIR) system. The nose art reflects this achievement and although painted on both sides of the nose, its name is in different colors for unknown reasons. Capt Snodgrass is known in the aviation community as a legend and is credited to flying the most hours in an F-14, over 4,800 hrs and 1,200 plus carrier arrested landings. He was CO of VF-33 (CVW-17) and led his squadron into Desert Storm. The movie "TOP GUN" was loosely based on "Snort" as he served as a consultant to the film.
