In Metamorphosis IV: Water Wings, artist Jody Sjogren captures an imaginary vision that could well have sparked the first idea to put an airplane on floats. From God's original feathered navigators of lakes and ponds to the marvelously adapted machinery of a seaplane, the concept of water flying holds a fascination all its own. Perhaps no other experience affords the flyer a close, more delightful communion with nature than traversing he waters and following the shoreline in an open-windowed seaplane! Here the drake Mallard, one of the world's most abundant and beautiful ducks, lifts off the water and symbolically undergoes a metamorphosis into the epitome of light airplanes, the sprightly J-3 cub. Is there anyone who has not seen and marveled at the mallard's striking, colorful plumage? Is there a pilot in America who does not recognize the faithful and timeless Cub? The two familiar and beloved birds are represented here in a tribute both to the artist's father, whose interest in the J-3 Cub Seaplane inspired this image, and to all pilots who have flown and loved "Old Yellow."
Condition Note: This print was framed in conservation materials since purchased. It is in very good shape and the color seems to be very balanced as it was when new. Some very slight dimpling is on the paper but would not be noticeable when framed. A very good value on a long since SOLD OUT print. One of Jody's first prints and still one of the most collectible. Comes with original Flyer as the COA.
