Colonel Clyde B. East proved that photo-reconnaissance pilots can also become fighter aces. Flying his North American F-6D (P-51) Mustang Lil’ Margaret, East engaged a Luftwaffe Heinkel He-111 near Dresden, Germany the morning of April 8, 1945.  After observing the enemy bomber’s successful belly landing in a cabbage field, he made a high-speed photo pass to verify his “kill.
