Avenging Strike is a black and white print from a pencil sketch that depicts the April 18, 1942 take-off of a B-25 from the deck of the U.S.S. Hornet. The Doolittle Raid was the U.S. Army Air Force response to President Roosevelt's desire to show America could strike back at the enemy despite a series of setbacks in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. Along with the legendary Dambuster Raid (Operation Chastise) this aerial combat action ranks as one of the most audacious of World War II and launched the war-time career of General J.H. "Jimmy" Doolittle into prominence.
