TODAY IN AVIATION HISTORY - OCTOBER 9, 1943 - VIII Bomber Command Mission Number 113

Posted

The Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau AG aircraft facility in Marienburg, East Prussia (Malbork, Poland), where the Luftwaffe's Fw 190 fighter was being manufactured, was attacked by approximately 100 American heavy bombers as part of VIII Bomber Command Mission Number 113. Marienburg was supposed to be outside the range of Allied bombs early in the war because German fighter production had been scattered.

Here is one of our favorite prints Schweinfurt / Regensburg by Jim Laurier, which features FW-190 and B-17 aircrafts.
