TODAY IN AVIATION HISTORY - SEPTEMBER 27, 2021 - Captain Michael N. Antoniou

On September 27, 1964, Captain Michael N. Antoniou flew the number two Bell YUH-1D-BF Iroquois, 60-6029, Bell Helicopter for World Record for Distance Without Landing from from Edwards Air Force Base in the high desert of southern California, non-stop to Rogers, Arkansas. The distance flown was 2,170.70 kilometers (1,348.81 miles).

The UH-1D Iroquois (Model 205) from Bell Helicopter Co. was an enhanced version of the UH-1B. (Model 204). The HU-1 was the type's initial military name, and the helicopter became known as the "Huey" as a result.
