The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Allan G. Hagelthorn, United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as B-52G Aircraft Commander near Baghdad on 20 January 1991. On that day, while attacking a communications center during Operation DESERT STORM. Captain Hagelthorn continued the bomb run despite heavy anti-aircraft artillery fire and the launch of a guided surface-to-air missile which exploded just below the aircraft. The successful attack in the face of heavy enemy fire resulted in the destruction of a critical communications facility. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Hagelthorn reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
