"Cylinders Wine" is a combination wine rack and chair side table made from "Merlin's Magic" Rolls Royce Merlin P-51 cylinder bank. This bank was one of 2 damaged when the engine in "Merlin's Magic", a P-51 race airplane, failed during qualifying for the Reno Air Races in 2006. More of the story is available at:
Merlins Magic .
The cylinder bank has curved white brackets mimicking an open cylinder head while connecting to delicately cut outlines of a P-51, which support a glass table top. In 2 cylinders at one end a pair of polished stainless steel rings is installed to hold a standard acrylic canister. This will hold chilled wine, cold beer or TV remote. The glass table top starts there and continues to the other end. At the bottom are 2 half-round brackets that curve gracefully up to the cylinder bank to hold it at the correct 30 degree "V" angle. This cylinder bank was cast in aluminum by Buick for assembly by Packard Motor Car Company in 1944. Glass top is 14" wide by 26" long.
A real unique piece for the Plane Junkie who doesn't quite have everything yet, but would be closer with this piece of air race history.
