Tank Type: FT-17
The Renault FT-17 was the first tank to feature a rotating turret. The general layout of the tank is still the common practice today and it is considered by most to be the first modern tank. During WWI, this French tank was provided to the American 344th Tank Battalion in the Tank Brigade under Col. George S. Patton, Jr. On October 4, 1918, commanded by Sgt Arthur Snyder, the Five of Hearts took part in an operation in support of the 16th Infantry. Five of Hearts was hit over 1300 times during the action with one driver killed and another wounded. The tank is preserved today at the National Museum of the U.S. Army.
