"Pylon Pursuit" is a credenza height table made from a Rolls Royce Merlin P-51 cylinder bank. This bank was one of 2 damaged when the engine in "Merlin's Magic", a P-51 race airplane, failed during qualifying for the Reno Air Races in 2006. More of the story is available at:
Merlin Magics web site.
There is obvious cylinder damage and one bent steel cylinder sleeve remains in place. Stainless steel brackets connect this cylinder bank to an actual Merlin intake manifold/intercooler, which is connected to delicately cut outlines of a P-51, which support a glass table top. Those stainless steel brackets have visible detailed engine drawings, logos of Rolls Royce and Packard, and the "Merlin's Magic" race team graphic.
A stainless steel pylon supports the left side of the table. It has a white Reno pylon tower fastened to a base plate of polished stainless steel that has an airport runway layout graphic plus holes drilled at the locations where the real plyons are on the course. At the bottom edge of the cylinder bank is a cutout of the Reno race airplane "Rare Bear". On the right is a flock of other Reno race airplanes headed the same direction in hot pursuit.
A real unique piece for the Plane Junkie who doesn't quite have everything yet, but would be closer with this piece of air race history.
