Plane Type: B-24M Liberator
Not much info on this a/c other than the group primarily conducted night missions in search of enemy submarines and shipping, hence the black paint. This artwork was widely used on many planes throughout the war and is an accurate depiction of the Alberto Varga illustration that appeared on the aircraft. The original panel survived the smelters and is on display at the American Airpower Heritage Museum in Texas. Unfortunately, it is painted in the wrong color scheme. Further analysis is discussed in Velasco's new nose art book as to how and the possibility of error on its historical significance.
