"The performance figures of the A-12 have only recently been declassified. The A-12 flew at Mach 3.29 at 90,000 feet, only the SR-71 was faster at Mach 3.3 at 90,000 ft.
The US Navy Electronic Surveillance Ship USS Pueblo was seized in the Sea of Japan by North Korean Naval and Air Forces on January 23, 1968. One crewman was killed in the attack. The following day, a Lockheed A-12 Blackbird flown by CIA pilot Ronald "Jack" Layton was launched from the 'Project Black Shield" Squadron at Kadena AB, Okinawa to verify that the US Navy ship was indeed under guard at Wonsan Harbor, North Korea. "The Peacekeeper" depicts the recon jet making one of three high-speed, high-altitude photo passes seeing the Pueblo surrounded by North Korean Navy ships at that location.
