First Day Cover commemorates the reformation of No.IX Squadron RAF: The First Tornado Squadron-1 June, 1982. The image by aviation artist John Young depicts Tornado of No. 9 Squadron RAF Honington on a Low-Level Training Sortie. This envelope was flown from RAF Station Honington in Tornado GR1, ZA591 on the first flight made by 1X Squadron RAF upon it's reformation 1st June, 1982. A high/low profile sortie using Automatic Terrain Following Radar was flown. Exercising low level navigation and first run bombing attacks on the RAF Weapon Ranges at Donna Nook and Cowden.
