STS-51A photographic print signed by Mission Specialist Anna Lee Fisher
Anna Lee Fisher worked as a mission specialist with the STS-51-A crew, aiding in capture and deployment of several communications satellites– two for each respective operation. As one of the first six women selected for the NASA space program (soon to become the first mother in space), she contributed to technical testing and contingency procedure development on a wide scale. The STS-51-A launched November 8th, 1984 at 12:15 UTC, successfully deploying satellites Anik D2 and Syncom IV-I (or Leasat 1) on the second and third days of the flight. Later, the result of kick motor malfunctioning for both units, the Palapa B2 and Westar satellites were retrieved from their incorrect orbits.
This photographic print captures a moment as Fisher assists crew members Joseph Allen and Dale Gardner with the robotic arm during their spacewalks to secure the satellites in the cargo bay. Each limited-edition image has been individually signed by Anna Lee Fisher. Certificate of Authenticity included
